Maria Escobedo
I grew up in Okanogan County and graduated from Bridgeport WA High School in 2008. I spent four years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate with the Spokane County Juvenile Center, eight years as a volunteer, board member and treasurer with the Spokane Hispanic Business Professional Association and a year with Lutheran Community Services Sexual Assault and Crime Victim Advocacy Program.
I have more than five years experience working in social service fields, working alongside and advocating for incarcerated individuals through the Department of Corrections, mobile housing case management, homeless youth and adults advocate, working alongside Unaccompanied Refugee Youth, and sexual assault and general crimes survivors as an advocate.
While in school and completing my degree, my career goal was to work as a counselor for the Washington State Department of Corrections, but while volunteering with youth and working in these various fields, my passion and career changed to advocating and allowing youth to realize their full potential by working alongside them. They have taught me more than any degree could have ever.
